What a week. While I'm not happy about the outcome of the election, I'll keep the political talk to a minimum.

On Wednesday, I attended the Aspire to Lead event hosted by Women @ Thomson Reuters, a conference about equality for women and diversity in the workplace. It was a room of 500 women and maybe 50 men (those brave souls!). How timely, as the country had just voted in a President who does not seem to value women, other cultures, or people who don't look like him. There was clearly a lot of fear and shock in the room, and many women were tearing up as the opening speaker shared stories of inequality in every day life.

I'm not a very political person, but I'm scared, and I'm a straight, white middle class woman. I can't even imagine what others are feeling. I may not be able to control much, but here's what I will do: I will continue to teach my daughters that they are capable of anything. That we treat others with respect, and are kind, even if we don't agree with their choices. That they can love whoever they want to love and will have our support.

I'll just leave this here:

"This loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it.
It is, it is worth it.
And so we need — we need you to keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives. And to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me: I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion.
Now, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will — and hopefully sooner than we might think right now. [Cheers and applause]
And to all of the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams. " - Hillary Clinton
